Summer 2002

OCCID Annual General Meeting well attended by OCCID Supporters. Thank You!

OCCID elected a new board – see attached list of OCCID Board Members and Committees and Chairs.

We also made several amendments to our constitution including changes to membership (new form attached). New members are welcome and ALL MEMBERSHIPS ARE RENEWED ANNUALLY. If you’re not already a member, this is the perfect time to join. Membership fee is $25.00. Members in good standing will not miss two consecutive meetings without reason. Member groups can send any representative from their group. OCCID pays for travel and 75% of accommodations for members to attend meetings.

arrive alive DRIVE SOBER®

The 2002 campaign will be our 13th annual summer-focused campaign to prevent impaired driving. This year’s sponsors include the Government of Ontario, The Beer Store, the LCBO, Pilot Insurance, and Bridgestone Tires. Special thanks to the Insurance Bureau of Canada for their support of this year’s insurance folders.

Materials are available. About 70 groups have received materials so far for this year. Feel free to place an order if you haven’t already! AND if you are organizing an event, we would love to post it on our website! – Fax back the date, times, purpose, etc and we’ll add your activities to our site and to our media release.

Not sure you’d use them? Samples of this year’s materials can be mailed to you if requested, and will be posted on our site or linked to our site in the immediate future. (occid.org, or www.arrivealive.org)

Arrive Alive Bottle Drive

Locations for this year’s bottle drive are confirmed and work has begun to publicize the event. We could still use some more volunteer support in Toronto, Windsor, Sudbury, and Timmins. We are very excited and grateful for all the support that has been received for this year’s event. Mark the date: Saturday, May 25th.

Call our office if you would like to help (toll-free at 1-) in any community . . .

Drive Straight

Know of a Golf Tournament we could participate in? – OCCID will happily share information about sober driving at public events including golf tournaments in southern Ontario – and we can send materials to tournaments taking place anywhere in Ontario. Acitivites include hosting an interactive putting competition with ‘fatal vision goggles’; providing educational materials for each golfer; and providing Drive Straight prizes (valued at about $65.00)
